Hogan Lovells advises Berenberg on the junior debt financing of renewable projects in Finland and Spain

10 May 2021 – International law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to have advised private bank Berenberg and the Berenberg Green Energy Junior Debts Funds (I and II) on the financing of two renewable projects in Finland and Spain.

Longstanding firm client Berenberg has provided a junior debt package to international project developer Energiequelle GmbH to support the construction of an onshore wind farm in Finland. The wind farm comprises seven Nordex N149 turbines with a total capacity of 30 MW. The Konttisuo wind farm is the first investment for Berenberg’s debt funds in Finland and the start of a cooperation between Energiequelle and Berenberg in this sector.

In Spain, Hogan Lovells advised Berenberg’s debt funds on the junior debt financing of the acquisition of the 50 MWp solar photovoltaic plant "Las Naranjillas" in Carmona (Seville), Spain, by Amarenco, an Irish solar independent power producer. Las Naranjillas consists of 121,800 photovoltaic modules, capable of generating enough clean electricity to meet the annual demand of almost 14,000 homes.

Led by Hamburg based partner and Head of the German Infrastructure, Energy, Resources and Projects Dr. Carla Luh, Hogan Lovells advised Berenberg in both transactions on all aspects of the financing including the due diligence and the finance documentation.
